Jason A. Parson – Healthcare Counseling
Mr. Parson has represented hospitals, medical staffs, and individual physicians in staff privilege disputes and has served both as a hearing officer and as counsel to appellate committees in staff privileging matters for several hospitals. He counsels hospitals regarding procedures for conducting peer review and credentialing investigations, resolving and adjudicating disputes regarding staff privileging matters, and appealing credentialing decisions.
Mr. Parson’s interest in staff privileging issues emanated from his successful trial defense of a Chicago-area hospital against a physician’s Title VII claim, alleging denial of staff privileges based upon race and national origin. Since then, he has defended hospitals against other lawsuits arising out of staff privileging disputes based upon such wide-ranging theories such as Antitrust, RICO, Conspiracy, Defamation, Violation of the Hospital Licensing Act and Breach of Contract.
In addition to staff privileging issues, Mr. Parson counsels healthcare institutions and medical professionals regarding a wide variety of manners, such as compliance with state and federal laws, patient rights, privacy, HIPAA, EMTALA, Illinois Medical Studies Act, contractual issues and licensing. He co-authored Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, Health Care Compliance Professionals Manual (CCH Publishers), ¶25,000 – ¶25,140. Furthermore, Mr. Parson has an active litigation practice in the state and federal courts as well as before several administrative agencies.
Mr. Parson received his J.D. from Washington University School of Law in 1988, where he served as Editor-In-Chief of the Washington University Law Quarterly. From 1988 through 1990, he served as law clerk to the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
